Risk Assessment
Risk assessment encompasses the necessary activities carried out to identify hazards existing in work areas or those that may originate from outside, to analyze and grade the factors causing these hazards to turn into risks as well as the risks arising from these hazards, and to determine control measures.
A hazard is anything that carries the potential to cause harm or damage that could affect employees or the workplace. Risk, on the other hand, is the probability of the harmful outcome caused by the hazard occurring. The purpose of risk assessment is to ensure that hazards are identified and precautions are taken before the risk materializes.
Risk assessment is a process that must be conducted together with a team. The individuals who should be part of the team can be listed as follows:
a) The employer or the employer's representative. b) Occupational safety experts and workplace physicians who carry out health and safety services at the workplace. c) Employee representatives at the workplace. d) Support staff at the workplace. e) Employees who are designated to represent all units in the workplace and possess knowledge about the work being conducted, as well as existing or potential hazard sources and risks at the workplace.
Risk assessment activities are ongoing in all units across all campuses of our university.
