Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to all tools, devices, equipment, integrated assemblies, and any detachable, non-detachable, or replaceable parts designed to be worn, held, or used by an employee to provide protection against one or more hazards.
Personal Protective Equipment is placed at the very last stage in the hierarchy of controls. Therefore, it is used in cases where risks identified in the risk assessment cannot be prevented or fully limited through elimination, substitution, engineering, or administrative measures. The markings, text, and instruction manuals on the personal protective equipment to be used provide crucial information regarding product safety. Particular attention should be paid to the following three points:
All personal protective equipment must bear the CE mark in accordance with the PPE Regulation.
If the product is manufactured in compliance with standards, the number representing the product standard is used alongside the TS EN or EN designation.
A user manual in Turkish regarding the use of the product must be included inside the product packaging.
Personal Protective Equipment is divided into 7 main categories:
Head protection
Eye and face protection
Hand and arm protection
Hearing protection
Respiratory protection
Protective clothing
Foot and leg protection
By taking into account the risk assessment results prepared with the assistance of the "Risk Identification Table Regarding the Use of Personal Protective Equipment," the specific conditions and types of personal protective equipment that employees must use are determined for health and safety purposes. Personal protective equipment only protects the individual wearing it, only provides protection while it is being used, and does not offer collective protection. Therefore, it should be considered a supportive measure rather than an alternative to collective protection measures.
Personal protective equipment procured by unit management is delivered to employees against an official delivery report (
tutanak
).
