OHS Committees (Occupational Health and Safety Committees)

Employee participation is crucial for building a strong safety culture. Occupational health and safety committees are the most effective platforms where the participation of all parties is ensured, all issues related to occupational health and safety are shared, and employees are actively involved in the process.

At the university, an Occupational Health and Safety Committee is established to carry out occupational health and safety-related activities in every unit that has fifty or more employees.

The committee consists of the following individuals: a) Management (Employer's Representative), b) Occupational safety expert, c) Workplace physician, d) A person in charge of human resources, personnel, social affairs, or administrative and financial affairs, e) Civil defense expert, if any, f) Foreman or master worker, if any, g) Employee representative, or the chief representative if there are multiple employee representatives at the workplace.

The chairman of the committee is the Management (Employer's Representative), and the secretary of the committee is the occupational safety expert.

The committee holds meetings every three months in "low hazard" units, every two months in "hazardous" units, and once a month in "highly hazardous" units.

At each meeting, minutes containing the decisions made regarding the discussed topics are prepared. The minutes are signed by the chairman and the members attending the meeting. The signed decisions are deemed to have been notified to the employer without the need for any further action. The signed minutes and decisions are kept chronologically in a dedicated file.
