Emergencies

An emergency is defined as an event that may occur in all or part of the workplace—such as a fire, explosion, release caused by hazardous chemical substances, or natural disaster—requiring immediate response, control, first aid, or evacuation. It is impossible to know when or where emergencies such as earthquakes, fires, floods, flashes, and explosions, as well as workplace accidents, will confront us. However, what we do know is that we must be constantly prepared for emergencies.

Possible emergencies that may occur not only affect university employees but can also impact students, other employees employed by subcontractors, visitors, and/or the public. This situation is taken into account while preparing emergency plans. Prepared separately for each unit of our university, these plans outline under main headings the measures that must be taken to respond correctly to emergencies, prevent and reduce loss of life and property, protect the environment, and prevent loss of reputation.

All employees are informed about the emergency plans and the individuals assigned to search, rescue and evacuation, firefighting, and first aid. Following the establishment of the plans, it is time for the training sessions and drills to be provided to the teams. Drills are conducted with the participation of the teams and all employees. All disruptions identified during the drills are noted down, and necessary measures are taken to prevent them from recurring.
